Jose Mourinho is looking for both a right-back and left-back in the transfer market, with Danny Rose on his Manchester United shopping list.
That’s according to The Guardian, who adds that Mourinho sees the full-back area as a place the Red Devils need to invest heavily in if they hope to catch Manchester City; who spent £100million on new wing-backs just last summer.
Interest in Rose intrigues me. He’s spent ten months out injured not so long ago, and throughout his career, he’s had various spells on the treatment table, which greatly concerns me. With that said, he’s a brilliant full-back when fit, and a definite improvement on what we have.
At 27, he’d bring a maturity to the back line which Mourinho craves. For whatever reason, he doesn’t trust the inexperienced Luke Shaw but absolutely loves Ashley Young. The latter is approaching the latter years of his footballing career and he’ll have to be replaced relatively soon. Why not bring in a guy who’s proven he can cut it in the Premier League?
I guess the major stumbling block will be Spurs’ asking price. No doubt they’ll be chasing something similar to the £50million that they demanded to let Kyle Walker leave, but United certainly have the money…
