Juan Mata could be on his way out of Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho targeting Chelsea’s Willian as his replacement.
That’s what The Sun writes, in an exclusive, as they add that the self-proclaimed Special One actually held talks with Willian’s representatives last summer before a move eventually broke down.
The Brazilian decided to stay put at Stamford Bridge back in 2017, but now the Red Devils are confident that a deal could be done this summer; and what a signing it’d be if Mourinho can pull it off.
Willian has comfortably been Chelsea’s best attacking outlet this term, scoring goals for fun while also being a constant thorn in the side of his opponents.
United have been without a real out-and-out right-winger for quite some time now, despite trying several different players out there. Perhaps the best has been Mata, and although losing him would be a real blow, I’d understand the decision to move him elsewhere.
I guess the only real concern where Willian is concerned is the fact that he’s almost 30 and he’s likely to not have many years left at the very top. With that said, we know Mourinho loves a short-term fix…
