Manchester United tell defensive duo they are free to leave the club this summer: report

Manchester United have told both Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian that they’re free to leave Old Trafford this summer.

That’s according to The Times, who adds that talks between Darmian and Juventus are already taking place, after the Italian and the aforementioned Dutchman have been told they’re surplus to requirements under Jose Mourinho.

Furthermore, neither player was included in a recent photoshoot for next season’s kit, which tells me that the writing is certainly on the wall.

From the get-go I’ve always held the belief that Blind just isn’t a Mourinho-type player. The self-proclaimed Special One loves tall, physical players, whereas Blind is the exact opposite. To be honest, I’m surprised he lasted two seasons under our gaffer.

As for Darmian, well, minus the first few months here, he’s just been absolutely horrific. Positionally, he’s woeful, he’s weak in the tackle, incredibly slow and just a dull footballer to watch. I’m surprised that a club with Juventus’ stature have shown an interest in taking him.

With that said, both of whom are rightly being sold this summer and hopefully, we’ll see some top quality replacements come in as Mourinho continues to mould the squad into his image.
