Manchester United to complete their first summer signing this week: report

Manchester United have had a slow start to the transfer period, but it looks as though we could well be closing in on our first signing. That’s according to A’Bola’s front page today, as per the Daily Express, who say that the Red Devils are closing in on Victor Lindelof of SL Benfica.

The report says that Jose Mourinho, who made a move for Lindelof in January is close to getting his man. The 22-year-old has ‘all but’ agreed to a move to the Theatre of Dreams and it should be done before the week is up. The centre-back’s national team take on France this coming Friday, and a deal could be wrapped up shortly after.

Honestly, Lindelof is a player that I personally don’t know an awful lot about. However, he has become a regular fixture in a very talented Benfica side, and that says a lot about his talents.

I think it comes as no surprise that United are looking at bringing in a centre-back. Both Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have been largely underwhelming this season, and although both Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo have done well – they need help, particularly with the Argentine suffering ligament damage back in April.

To be honest, I would have liked to see someone with a bit more experience come into the mix. We’ve not had that real veteran leader since Nemanja Vidic left, and instead, we’ve had to rely solely on the younger guys in a position where I believe experience is vital.

With that said, I do trust Mourinho 100%. He has made four signings as United manager and got every single one of those decisions correct. Until that changes, he has my full backing.
