Manchester United to make £70million move for world-class centre-back: report

Manchester United are readying a huge £70million move for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, reports in Spain are claiming.

Don Balon, translated by the Manchester Evening News, reckon Jose Mourinho is keen on a reunion with the man he coached during their time together at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 25-year-old is just brilliant. I’d say he’s up there amongst the best in the business when it comes to centre-halves, and if the Red Devils think they stand any chance at signing him, the club must pull out all the stops.

He’s world-class, and alongside Eric Bailly, we’d have a back two that has immense potential to grow into one of the best this country has ever seen.

Varane has pace, strength, a real aeiral prowess and just brilliant natural ability. Mourinho will know him well, he’ll totally understand what the Frenchman would bring to the table; and if it means less minutes for the likes of Phil Jones, then I’m perfectly fine with any deal to bring him in.

My issue comes with the fact that Real Madrid aren’t going to want to sell him. The Champions League finalists have utilised Varane on 41 occasions this term, largely alongside Sergio Ramos.
