Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to prise Aymeric Laporte away from Athletic Bilbao as early as January, according to The Mirror. The young 20-year old centre-back has been impressing in the Basque country, and if he continues progressing the way he is doing, he is certain to be one of the stars of the EURO’s in his home country in two years time.
United are understood to have made an enquiry to Bilbao about Laporte, and it is believed that the centre-back has an £32million release clause in his contract. Ed Woodward is already working on deals for the winter transfer window, and Laporte is reportedly top of Louis van Gaal’s wish list.
It is believed that fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool are also monitoring Laporte, who is regarded as one of the hottest talents in world football at the moment.
