Manchester United and Louis van Gaal are seriously considering the possibility of making a move for Borussia Dortmund centre-back, Mats Hummels. According to The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson, Manchester United are prepared to break the British transfer record to bring Hummels to Old Trafford – eclipsing the £32million Manchester City spent on Eliquim Mangala.
Hummels is one of the best, if not the best centre-back in world football. He’s shown he can do it at the highest level at the World Cup this year, leading from the back and eventually walking away with a winners medal.
The main concern with this move is the fact that it’ll be tough to prise him away from Dortmund mid-season. Despite their poor run of form in the league, the German side are still firmly in the hunt for a spot in the Champions League knockout stages, and a lot can still change in the next six weeks before the window officially opens.
