Atletico Madrid were one of the surprise packages from last season, with Diego Simeone guiding his extremely hardworking side to Liga BBVA glory on the final day of the season. The Argentinian gaffer also took his side to the Champions League final, but an injury suffering by Diego Costa in the opening minutes meant that Atleti just fell short of doing the double.
At the heart of the Madrid defence was a certain Diego Godin. The 28-year old was an absolute warrior all season-long, and he even chipped in with an impressive eight goals in fifty appearances.
According to ESPN’s Diego Cora, Manchester United are interested in the services of Godin, as they look to bolster a defence that is struggling for any kind of form at the present time. Godin would bring that experience that we’re so desperately lacking. He is a commanding presence who’ll certainly lead from the back, and he has a good track record where injuries are concerned, which is always a bonus when you look at United’s horrific injury record.
