Manchester United had a four-strong England representation at the 2018 World Cup. Gareth Southgate’s side made it all the way to the semi-finals just a couple of months ago…
Now, we’re rapidly approaching the first international break of the campaign. Southgate, once again, has gone for a youthful side, with three Red Devils making the cut; including an immensely deserved call-up for Luke Shaw.
United confirmed the trio that would be heading out to take part in the fixtures via social media, with Shaw being joined by Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard. Both Ashley Young and Phil Jones have rightly been cut from the squad.

I’m just absolutely delighted for Shaw. He’s made an excellent start to the season. Left-back has been England, and United’s problem area for a couple of years now. The 23-year-old could well be the man to fix both those issues.
The key is to put his injuries behind him and focus on the future. This is the start of something special for him. It’s time to get his career back on the right path.
As for Rashford and Lingard. They’re now both mainstays within Southgate’s setup. The pair have only made one start each to start off United’s Premier League campaign, so this could be a good opportunity for them to get some much-needed minutes under their belt.
