Manchester United want Arjen Robben in January

Manchester United are set to spend big once again next summer, but according to reports that huge spending spree could start as early as January. The Express claim that Louis van Gaal wants to move for Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben when the window opens, and Robben himself is keen on a reunion with his former international manager.

We all know how notoriously hard it is to sign world class players in January, and the majority of the time, when deals do go through those players struggle to adapt to life at a new club mid-season. Arjen Robben is an odd one, because I can’t see any reason why he’d leave a club who have a realistic chance at winning the treble this year to fight for fourth spot in England.

Yes, he has a great relationship with Louis van Gaal, but he’s 30 now, so why would he turn down the opportunity to add more silverware to his collection for the sake of six months?

I can’t see any truth in this rumour, so take this one with a pinch of salt for the moment…
