Manchester United Football Club want Juan Mata contract talks this month.
The Spaniard, who is now 30, will become a free agent in the summer if the club don’t agree to extend his deal. Now, according to The Sun, per The Daily Mail, United are planning a sit down with the attacking midfielder this month.
As per contractual rulings, Mata would be free to talk to overseas clubs about signing a pre-deal when January rolls around. However, the aforementioned report claims that the ex-Chelsea man wants to remain a Red Devil.
It’s a funny one, with Mata. He’s obviously a brilliant player, but I struggle to see where he fits into a Jose Mourinho team week-in-week-out. Moments like his brilliant cameo against Newcastle United have been all-too-rare. He’d be the first player to admit that.
With that said, the fans love him, rightly so. He gets this club. He gives his all every time he crosses that white line. The consummate professional. If the deal is right, I’d be more than happy to keep him on board, but if Mata does walk away then I won’t be losing any sleep.
As so many players are free agents next summer, it’s going to be highly likely that at least a few will move on. For me, Mata is the one player where I wouldn’t be too fussed what happened either way.
