Manchester United want to sign 6’3 defender to replace duo – report

Mourinho’s Manchester United have made some brilliant transfers already this season, with the club looking to mount a serious title challenge for the first time in a few seasons. With four transfers made, you honestly wouldn’t rule out a fifth.

The Manchester Evening News say that Jose Mourinho is still keen on bringing in his Portuguese compatriot Jose Fonte. The 32-year-old has been at Southampton for years, and has really established himself as a top quality Premier League centre-back.

The report adds that Mourinho wants to bring in some experience to help out the likes of Eric Bailly, and Fonte would certainly bring that to the table. The Evening News also say that Jose wants to replace both Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones, who our manager is seemingly unimpressed with.

Honestly, I don’t see Fonte as an upgrade on our starting line-up. The only positive around the signing would be the fact that he’d bring some experience to the table. However, he didn’t cover himself in glory against Zlatan Ibrahimovic when the sides met on Friday night – particularly when our Swedish forward absolutely towered over him in the air.
