Manchester United wanted Carlo Ancelotti to become Manchester United manager, not once, but twice, according to Spanish media outlet Marca. They claim that Fergie originally wanted him to take over the reigns when he left, and also when David Moyes was sacked in the summer just gone.
Ancelotti is one of, if not the finest manager in world football at the moment, and his experience would’ve been a real plus point if he were to have become Manchester United manager. Instead he opted to move to Real Madrid, where he managed to land the Champions League crown in his first season with Cristiano Ronaldo and co.
“I’m sorry, but I prefer Real Madrid.” Ancelotti told Ferguson.
If you believe reports, Ancelotti is set to pen a new deal at Real in the not too distant future, but you wouldn’t be entirely surprised if United renewed an interest in him when Louis van Gaal’s time is up.
