Manchester United wanted star striker ‘at all costs’ but failed to sign him

Manchester United had a fantastic transfer window, securing some huge signatures whilst clearing plenty of dead wood from the squad. Louis van Gaal still wanted that marquee signing however, but unfortunately it didn’t happen due to a number of reasons.

One player they were chasing was Thomas Muller, and his agent has suggested that United wanted him at all costs, but Bayern were never intending to sell their star man.

Agent Giovanni Branchini said: “Manchester United wanted Thomas Müller at all costs.”

Branchini continued: “I’ve spent days trying to explain to them Bayern would never let him leave so in the end they changed their mind.”

Thomas Muller would have been an outstanding signing, but it was always looking unlikely. The German is currently at his hometown club and playing week-in week-out, and it’d take huge amounts of money to prise him away from Bavaria.
