Manchester United had the chance to sign the best player in footballing history, according to himself. Pele, the man who scored over 600 professional goals for Santos, has claimed that he had many offers from some of Europe’s giants, including Manchester United.
He said: “In the past, it was a profession filled with love. Now, it is just a profession. There is not that love of playing for my club, playing for my country.
“Obviously, a soccer player needs to make a living from the game, but it is different from my time. I had many offers to play for Real Madrid, AC Milan, Manchester United. However, Santos was playing well, I was playing well. I did not want to leave.”
What a signing Pele would have been. He was absolutely incredible for Santos and the New York Cosmos, and it would’ve been brilliant to see if he could do it in European football, as thats one of the few criticisms he receives.
