Just before 2016 began, the reports coming from the English media suggested Louis van Gaal’s future at Old Trafford were certainly in doubt. That led to a whole host of managers being linked with the hottest job in football, and one name constantly mentioned was Josep Guardiola.
However, according to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will not fight with Manchester City for the signature of the Spanish manager this summer.
Whether Edward Woodward already has a manager in mind if Louis van Gaal does leave, or whether the club have already decided that the Iron Tulip will stay in charge remains to be seen.
It does seem like a huge mistake if Manchester United don’t even contest to bring Guardiola in however. He is arguably the best manager in the game at the moment, and it would seem a bit daft to let him go to our big rivals completely unchallenged.
