Last summer, Manchester United spent a hefty £31million to bring in Victor Lindelof from SL Benfica. However, he may be moving on loan next season.
That’s according to The Sun, per talkSPORT, who says that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Lindelof’s, but the gaffer isn’t sure whether he deserves a first-team role next season.
Apparently, both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have established themselves ahead of the Ice Man in the pecking order, with Mourinho weighing up moves for both Samuel Umtiti and Jonny Evans; if either deal is pulled off, then Lindelof could leave Old Trafford in a short-term move.
The report goes on to add that European sides have shown an interest in loaning Lindelof, but I’d be immensely surprised if that were the case. This is a young man who’s developing and growing as a footballer, while learning all the time on the training ground, playing alongside some world-class footballers.
Sending him away on loan will only hurt his confidence and morale – which doesn’t do anybody any favours whatsoever. With each passing game, Lindelof has grown in confidence and he’s looking more calm and assured, it just doesn’t make any sense to hinder that growth.
