Well, it was fun while it lasted. Manchester United looked nothing short of outstanding at the weekend, as Mourinho’s men demolished champions Leicester City by a scoreline of 4-1. That was all without captain Wayne Rooney, who started the match on the bench.
Now, according to the Daily Mirror, the 30-year-old is set to return to the line-up in the Europa League against Zorya Luhansk on Thursday. Which we probably had to expect would happen.
This is a game that Manchester United have to, and should be able to win with Wayne Rooney in the team. Let’s be honest, he has been nothing short of atrocious at the start of this season and perhaps the fact that he was benched at the weekend will give him that fire back in his belly which he often uses to play well.
Bringing him back in against a team like Zorya is a good opportunity for Wayne to get that confidence flowing again, and if he can score a goal or two that’ll certainly help.
