Manchester United’s hopes of signing another world class centre-half has been prematurely ended. Yesterday Sergio Ramos signed a new Real Madrid contract, and today Nicolas Otamendi’s move to Manchester City was officially confirmed.
Otamendi, 27, was touted to go to Manchester United all summer by the Spanish press, but Louis van Gaal has always denied his interest in the experienced Argentinian.
Today United’s hopes were well and truly ended as he penned a five-year deal at City – keeping him at the blue half of Manchester until at least 2020.
With both United and City having an 100% record so far, this kind of signing could be the turning point either way, and Manchester United certainly need to strengthen further.
Its a shame really, Otamendi would’ve been a fantastic signing at just over £30million, and it seemed as though the player himself would’ve chosen Old Trafford over The Etihad if given the choice. Hopefully Louis van Gaal has something up his sleeve…

Well LVG and Woodward certainly don’t appear to know how to close a deal out.
