Manchester United definitely need to bring in at least a few new players if they want to improve on their sixth-placed Premier League finish from last campaign. One area of the field which needs some work is the final third of the pitch, and reports have been linking the Red Devils with a move for James Rodriguez.
Now we’ve been given some fresh information in our pursuit of the Colombian and it comes from the usually reliable David Amoyal. Whilst writing a transfer column for ESPN FC, Amoyal claims that United’s interest in Rodriguez has increased, because of Inter Milan’s desire to keep hold of Ivan Perisic.
Furthermore, Amoyal rates our chances of signing the playmaker at 45%, giving us a decent shot at landing a truly world-class playmaker.
I’d be absolutely delighted if Manchester United sign the 25-year-old. It certainly looks as though he could be on his way out of Madrid this summer, particularly after being snubbed for a place in Real’s Champions League final squad.
Chance creation was our single biggest problem in Mourinho’s first season in charge and it comes as no secret that Rodriguez would single-handedly improve that situation from the get-go.
We have plenty of attacking midfielders, but not one of them has really taken control of the #10 role when given the opportunity, and Jose has had a tendency of playing both Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan out wide. This would be the perfect signing for the Red Devils to make, and it’d send out a message of intent to the rest of the league.
