Manuel Locatelli has confirmed that he turned down the chance to move to Man United.
It goes without saying that recently, Manchester United have struggled in the transfer market. Suddenly, Old Trafford is no longer the premier destination when it comes to players looking to move on. It has become far harder to entice the top stars to make the move to the Red half of Manchester.
No doubt we’ll continue to hear about these struggles until Erik ten Hag (hopefully) returns the Red Devils right to the top. Today, though, it’s come to light that the 20-time Premier League champions were rejected by Manuel Locatelli.
It’s Calciomercato, with the claim. Thanks to the MEN Live Blog for providing the translation. Apparently, the classy 24-year-old has confirmed that he ‘politely declined’ a move to United in the summer of 2021.
Instead, Locatelli decided to head to Turin to play for the club he supported as a youngster; Juventus.
Locatelli is currently in the middle of a two-year loan with the Old Lady, with Juve having an obligation to buy the player outright for less than £25m. An absolute bargain if you ask me…
The verdict
At the time, Locatelli was also linked with a potential switch to Arsenal, though in the end, it seems neither United nor the Gunners had any genuine chance at getting this deal over the line.
No doubt Locatelli would have been a cracking piece of business if United could have got it done, though I’m not sure it would have changed our outcome for the 2021/22 season. There’s no point looking back at this one with any real negativity as Locatelli’s heart was set elsewhere and there was never going to be an ability to change that.
