Man United are still making an effort to sign Manuel Ugarte from PSG.
Manchester United have now made their first signing, with Joshua Zirkzee the newest Red Devil.
More top quality additions are required if Erik ten Hag’s side are to start competing for a top four finish next season.
Among the big needs is another midfielder, preferably a defensive-minded one. Casemiro is getting older and Sofyan Amrabat has left (for now at least).
The name most linked with filling that void is Manuel Ugarte. The PSG midfielder, who played 37 games last season, is available for transfer.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided the latest information on that front. He says United are ‘still there’ in the race to sign the Uruguay man.
The 23-year-old midfielder is still a ‘transfer candidate’ for United this summer, while talks over the signing are continuing.

… as the 23 y/o is still a transfer candidate for #MUFC in central midfield!

PSG seemingly will not be rushed into a sale, with Ugarte currently under contract until 2028. It’s up to United to meet their asking price this summer, which is believed to be somewhere around the £35-50m mark depending on which media outlets you trust.
Having watched Ugarte in the Copa America, I can see why United are interested. This is a pure defensive midfielder, who loves mopping up and doing the dirty work. As an alternative (and a potential long-term replacement) for Casemiro, the Old Trafford club could do a whole lot worse.
