Man United still have eyes on signing Marc Guehi, though the defender will cost £60m.

Defensively, Manchester United have been a nightmare this season. Some of that can be put down to injuries, with Erik ten Hag offered no consistency in that area of the field.

It would make sense to bring in some new names and faces, in order to help solidify the back line and stop leaking goals.

Raphael Varane is leaving. The futures of Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are far from certain. Hence, at least one centre-half signing feels like a certainty.

Among the names linked is Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace defender has enjoyed another brilliant season with The Eagles, though he could well be on the move this summer.

The latest small update in the brewing saga comes from The Guardian, who state that the 23-year-old centre-back is ‘wanted’ by United this summer. They also place a price tag of around £60m on Guehi.

The defender has just a couple of years left on his current deal, meaning Palace could be forced into parting with him during this window, in order to maximise transfer value. For example. the fee could be drastically reduced if they held on for another year and sold Guehi next summer instead.

I do wonder whether United can even afford Guehi at this point. Money is believed to be tight for INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, while it may be reliant on selling some players and freeing up some wage space first. The good news? Big money will be saved when the aforementioned Varane, and his French compatriot, Anthony Martial, leave the club in the not too distant future.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Marc Guehi would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
