Man United will have to take on FC Barcelona, without the help of Marcel Sabitzer, who is suspended.

Manchester United take on FC Barcelona this midweek, with the games now coming thick and fast for the Old Trafford side.

This is yet another true test for United, displaying just how far they’ve come under Erik ten Hag. However, Barca are in excellent form themselves. Winning this fixture will not be easy.

The task got slightly harder for the Reds, too, with news filtering through that Marcel Sabitzer will be suspended for the first leg due to being suspended.

The Austrian, who has been looking good since making the move to United, picked up yellow cards in the group stage of the Champions League while playing for Bayern Munich. We were unsure whether that would carry over, though UEFA have confirmed the 28-year-old has to serve a one-game ban.

Sabitzer has started the last two United games due to Casemiro’s domestic suspension. Though the good news is that the Brazilian’s ban doesn’t carry over to continental competition, so he will be available to play here.

However, it would have been nice to have Sabitzer available, just for that extra bit of depth amongst the substitutes bench, particularly with Scott McTominay still nursing an injury problem.

There’s also the Lisandro Martinez ban to think about. The Argentine is another who has fallen foul of the culmination of collecting too many yellow cards. He’s also out of this match at the Camp Nou.

Hopefully, United can still grab some sort of positive result to bring back to Manchester with them – though this is going to be a super difficult task under the circumstances.
