Marcos Rojo is seemingly moving closer to leaving Manchester United.
The Argentine centre-half hasn’t made a single appearance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the writing on the wall for a proposed Marcos Rojo exit for quite some time.
Now, we’ve been given the clearest indication that a move away is close. It comes from TyC Sports, translated via Sport Witness. It’s claimed that the 30-year-old United star is ‘very close’ to sealing a move elsewhere, namely Boca Juniors in Rojo’s homeland.
Apparently, a move could happen this month. In fact, Boca Juniors are pushing for that to happen. That’s because they’d like Rojo to be signed before next season’s Copa Libertadores kicks off in April. If a deal cannot be reached now, they’ll have to wait until June to acquire the centre-half.
In terms of complications, for a move to happen now, Rojo would have to rescind his contract with United. Whereas it’d be much easier for Boca Juniors to sign the defender in June as he’d be available on a free transfer.
Boca juniors would face some competition, though, with Estudiantes also in the race to sign Rojo. Don’t forget he’d spend some time on loan with Estudiantes not too long ago.
It sounds brutal but at this point, I don’t think United fans really care. Rojo’s always injured and he hasn’t been in our memory for the last couple of years.
Simply put, it wouldn’t be a huge loss. Sure, I’d like to see him play for us one final time just because he’s an absolute lunatic (I mean that in a nice way). Though Solskjaer just doesn’t seem to fancy him at all.
Personally, I’d hope a deal can be reached this month, purely so his wages are off the books sooner rather than later…
