Marcus Rashford continues to be nursing an injury problem.
In their academy graduate, Manchester United have someone who is tough as nails. Marcus Rashford has always been willing to put his body through the pain barrier in order to help the team. You have to admire him for that.
Sometimes, as a manager, it’s about playing your part to ensure long-term damage isn’t suffered. Last night, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chose not to utilise Rashford, giving him some much-needed game-time off. Honestly, it had been coming as the Englishman has struggled to complete 90 minutes of late.
Thankfully, our league position does give the gaffer some freedom in regards to resting players. After all, we’re cemented into that second-place spot, while we’re going all-guns-blazing to win the Europa League.
After the 2-0 victory at Old Trafford last night, Solskjaer confirmed the key United star Rashford is doubtful to take on Burnley, admitting he doesn’t know if he’ll be good to go.
“We hope he is going to be ready. Today wasn’t about risking him and he was on the bench just in case. You never know in a knockout tie [who you will need]. He’s been playing on with a sore foot, but I don’t know yet [if we will play on Sunday].” Solskjaer told United’s in-house website.
Again, If Rashford is dealing with a sore foot, I have no issue with leaving him out of the squad altogether. Then, the 23-year-old has a full week to heal up before our next Premier League game. To me, this seems like the logical solution.
I look at it like this. Whichever eleven is selected this weekend should have more than enough quality to get the three points against Burnley. Without wanting to disrespect, we have our eyes set on bigger and better things. We’re going to need Rashford for that double-header against AS Roma.
Hopefully, Rashy is feeling in good spirits despite his body completely hurting all over this season. Honestly, I bet he can’t wait for some time off to rest up and heal.
