Marcus Rashford has admitted he’s feeling the benefits of a proper rest and pre-season.
Manchester United as a collective were mightily disappointing in 2021/22. From top to bottom, the whole club struggled to find any consistency within their play.
Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn’t get the right tune out of a talented squad. Ultimately, both would lose their jobs, with Erik ten Hag stepping through the door.
Perhaps the player who epitomised United perfectly was Marcus Rashford. Even the man who has always given his all every single time he took to the field looked disinterested.
The Englishman struggled for any sort of consistency since his return in October. By the end of the campaign, he couldn’t pick out the simplest of passes…
However, a change in leadership coupled with the benefit of a full pre-season has instilled confidence into Rashford.
In a recent interview, the 24-year-old United star was sounding really positive about how things have gone, adding he feels ‘really happy’ going into the new term. Rashford is looking to bounce back strong, with the attacker making a positive start in pre-season.
“I feel fit, I feel strong and we’ve come out of the trip without any injuries,” Rashford told the media, including Sky Sports. “For us, it’s definitely a positive thing to have a fully-fit squad ready to start the season.
“For me personally, it’s priceless to have the pre-season that I’ve had.
“Sometimes I don’t really take as much note of it because usually we’re playing games in the summer and stuff like that, so the next season sort of just rolls onto the previous season.
“But this year I’ve had time to break, rest, recover mentally and physically, and then I’ve had a proper pre-season.
“I feel really happy. I’m pleased that I managed to do that.”
Sometimes we forget that these guys are humans too. Rashford has been through his own struggles – both physically and mentally.
Having a new manager who believes in his talents, coupled with the benefit of going into the season in great shape, is the perfect start.
Personally, I think we should expect big things from Rashford over the next twelve months. The Englishman has shown us all just how capable he is of performing at the highest level. All he needed was that little bit of a pick-me-up.
The 24-year-old is now amongst the most experienced players within that United dressing room. It’s up to Rashford to help lead from the front in 2022/23 and I really do believe he’ll deliver the goods.
