Marcus Rashford has taken to Twitter to send a message to fans after scoring his first World Cup goal.
Manchester United Football Club have a pretty sizable contingent of players at Qatar 2022 – and it didn’t take long for the Red Devils players to make their mark.
All of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford had their say as England beat Iran 6-2 in their opening match – and it was superb to see.
Both Shaw and Maguire ended the game with an assist, while putting in a commanding showing from a personal perspective.
As for Rashford, he’d score with what felt like his first touch after coming off the substitutes bench. It was a coolly taken goal from the English striker, with the finish his first in a World Cup. There cannot be many better feelings than that.
Anyway, after scoring, Rashford took to Twitter to send an emotional message to the supporters, with Rashford unable to put his delight into words.
Check out Marcus Rashford’s tweet after his goal here:
More than anything, I’m just delighted for Rashford. The striker has come in for heavy criticism over the last twelve months. This is just another message to the doubters, whom he keeps proving wrong.
Rashford is someone who was always capable of having a say in this World Cup. Although he’s not starting, the pace, flair and energy he can bring to the game off the bench cannot be understated. Who knows, an injury here or some loss of form from other players, and Rashy could well find himself in the XI in the not-too-distant future.
For United, it’s also good. They want a confident Rashford to return to Old Trafford when the domestic scene returns next month. If he can bag a few goals here or there, while playing well throughout the World Cup, that can only be a good thing.
Congratulations, Marcus!
