Marcus Rashford set for scan on groin problem, Solskjaer says he’ll be ‘out for a little while’

Manchester United were second-best during their 2-0 loss away at West Ham United, and the game was marred further by an injury to Marcus Rashford.

After the Englishman was subbed off the field, Jesse Lingard was actually deployed as the main striker. Yep, that is as bad as it sounds…

In the aftermath, the main concern was in regards to how long Rashford will be out injured for. Well, after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the 21-year-old actually has a groin problem and he’ll have a scan, though he doesn’t sound confident about the injury…

“He felt his groin. We’ll do a scan tomorrow to see how badly he’s injured. I don’t know how long he’ll be out, I’m not a doctor. But he’ll probably be out for a little while.” Solskjaer told

Losing Rashford for any prolonged period of time would be an absolute travesty – particularly as Anthony Martial is still out injured.

The onus now falls on Mason Greenwood’s shoulders (but only if he can recover from tonsilitis in time), which is some huge pressure to place on a 17-year-old…

This is the risk you run when you thin the squad out. I get that Solskjaer wanted to get rid of players who didn’t want to be here, but you have to replace them (even if you bring in stop-gaps).

I just don’t know where we go from here. Lingard playing at striker is right up there with Phil Jones taking corners during the Louis van Gaal regime, and no doubt this’ll become a popular meme in the not too distant future.

For now, I have everything crossed for one striker to be available against Arsenal next Monday night.
