Mario Mandzukic could end up at Man United, Juve looking to sell: report

Every summer brings up those transfer rumours that you just cannot help but laugh at, well, here’s the 2019 edition of said scenario…

The story comes from TuttoMercatoWeb, translated brilliantly by Sport Witness. They say that none other than Mario Mandzukic, who currently plies his trade for Juventus, could play a role in helping Matteo Darmian move back to Italy. Now hear us out with this one…

Apparently, Maurizio Sarri does not need the 33-year-old forward, with Juventus looking to offload the Croatian. TMW claim that United have eyed a move for Mandzukic in the past, with the Italian media outlet stating that Old Trafford could be his ‘eventual destination’.

The deal could open the way for Darmian to move back to his homeland, with Juve showing a multi-year interest in the now 29-year-old…

TMW make it clear that there has been no negotiation taken place so far, although they do add that it’s an ‘idea that could take shape’.

Now on the face of it, you just look at the story and laugh. However, when you factor in that United have signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka, while rumours about Romelu Lukaku’s future continue to swirl, there could be some credibility in the story.

It’s probably a long-shot, and who knows whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is actually interested in Mandzukic. I’d guess he probably isn’t, particularly as United have been linked to a high volume of younger players during this transfer window.
