Manchester United’s biggest issue this term has been sticking the ball in the back of the net. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to thin out his attacking options is already biting them hard – and that needs to be addressed, preferably in January.

Anyway, according to The Sun, United have been handed a transfer boost, with striker Mario Mandzukic to half his wage demands in order to secure himself an Old Trafford switch.

Apparently, the Juventus star is wanted by United in a £10million move, and the 33-year-old Croat is ready to lower his £300,000-a-week request to £150,000 as he wants the move to happen.

Furthermore, the Reds aren’t the only ones keen on a January move for Mandzukic, with the veteran having an offer from Qatar.

I like Mandzukic, I think he’s a player who would certainly improve this playing squad. However, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Signing the Juventus man would mean Solskjaer is admitting that he failed over the summer, while the Baby Faced Assassin would also be abandoning his transfer strategy of signing young, preferably British players.

At this stage, though, needs-must. United need help and January is a notoriously tricky window to buy in. If the club seriously believe they can get Mandzukic, then go for it and bring him in on an eighteen-month deal.
