Marko Arnautovic wants to make the move to Old Trafford if the opportunity arises this summer.
Manchester United’s lack of depth up front has already reared it’s ugly head and come back to bite the Red Devils, who struggled mightily in the final third against Brighton.
Cristiano Ronaldo was only fit enough for just over half an hour, with Anthony Martial unavailable due to a hamstring problem.
Last night, we covered a claim from The Athletic, who stated that United were interested in acquiring Marko Arnautovic to bring in some squad depth.
The Telegraph have a pretty big update in regards to Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of the Austrian…
Apparently, United have had a £7.2m bid for the 33-year-old rejected by his current club Bologna, but the Reds are ‘likely’ to make an improved bid.
On top of that, the player is ‘extremely keen’ on a switch to Man United this summer, which is understandable given the opportunity he’d be given. The Telegraph add that the Austrian is considering asking the Italian side to allow him to leave.
Ten Hag sees Arnautovic as someone who is a cut price solution, while the fact he can also play out wide would also help this United side as things currently stand.
Arnautovic is someone who has worked with Ten Hag before during his time at FC Twente, while the Reds’ assistant, Steve McClaren, also has experience in how to best utilise the tall attacker.
The Austrian scored fourteen goals for Bologna last term in Serie A, while he also has Premier League experience under his belt, having played for both Stoke City and West Ham United.
I understand why the Red Devils are interested in Arnautovic, but I said it previously, it’d be an underwhelming move in a time where the Old Trafford club need genuine quality.
