Martial reveals why his form was better under Van Gaal rather than Mourinho

Manchester United are playing some brilliant stuff right now, with Jose Mourinho’s men looking in ominous form. A large part of that is due to excellent man-management from the self-proclaimed Special One – who has been key in the form of Anthony Martial of late.

The talented Frenchman went through a real poor spell, with several bad performances coming in a row. That subsequently led to him being dropped for a while and left out of the limelight – and the fans weren’t very happy with that decision.

Although we’ve seen glimpses of his capabilities in recent weeks, as a whole, the 21-year-old hasn’t been anywhere close to matching the displays he put on last campaign.

Martial was asked about exactly why he performed better under Louis van Gaal rather than Jose Mourinho, and he himself put that down to more playing time in the 2015/16 season.

“It is just because last year I played a lot, I had the possibility to play back-to-back games,” the Daily Star quotes Anthony Martial as saying.

It does make perfect sense. When you’re given a real run of games, it allows you to build up your confidence, as well as playing in a highly competitive environment – which is only a good thing.

This season he has been in and out of things and that hasn’t allowed him to gain rhythm. Like I wrote earlier, we’ve seen flashes of brilliance from the former AS Monaco man, but now he’s back in the side I believe the best is yet to come this season.

There is no better stage for him to show his qualities than the EFL Cup final this coming Sunday. He was rested as United took on Saint-Etienne last night, and that’s a good indicator towards him starting at Wembley in my opinion.
