Man United are pushing to bring in Martin Dubravka as their back-up goalkeeper, with the player also wanting a move.
Bringing in some sort of competition for David de Gea feels like an absolute necessity now that Dean Henderson is playing his football elsewhere.
The Englishman has already saved a couple of penalties this season, helping Nottingham Forest look competitive during their return to the Premier League.
De Gea, on the other hand, has been painfully average. The Spaniard isn’t ideal with ball at feet. That’s a huge part of the Erik ten Hag mantra. Hence, someone who fits the mould perfectly would be a good addition.
That’s where Martin Dubravka comes in. United have been linked with a move to bring in the Newcastle United shot-stopper over the last week or so.
The latest update in the saga comes from Fabrizio Romano. He took to Twitter this morning to give us the freshest information.
Apparently, Dubravka is also keen on this move, as he ‘dreams’ of Man United. On top of that, he has asked the Newcastle board to allow him to leave.
United are now ‘pushing’ to make Dubravka their next signing, presumably after a move for winger Antony, who is edging closer to a reunion with Ten Hag.
In terms of transfer structure, this would be a loan move, with an option to buy for £5million.
Dubravka is someone who is a great fit for Ten Hag, though he’s obviously not as talented as De Gea. Whether or not the system can make up the difference for the Slovakian, remains to be seen.
However, this feels like a no-brainer for all involved. At the very least, Dubrvaka’s arrival will give De Gea that kick up the backside he needs.
On top of that, from Dubravka’s standpoint, he’s already playing second-fiddle at Newcastle United. Why not do that at Old Trafford instead? Obviously, playing at the theatre of Dreams is a far more attractive proposition.
