Mason Greenwood named as Man United’s quickest player this term, according to Opta

Manchester United Football Club have endured a topsy-turvy 2019/20 season, though before the Coronavirus epidemic halted play, the Reds were trending upwards.

While football remains absent from our lives, attention has largely turned to transfer stories and behind-the-scenes goings-on.

Well, yesterday, the official ManUtd.com compiled some stats via the guys over at Opta, revealing United’s fastest player this season. It’s fair to say a surprising winner was named…

Their stats have covered every Premier League game played this term and the first thought that came to my mind was it’d either be Daniel James or Marcus Rashford, I was wrong…

Although those guys finished third and fourth respectively (Fred second!), it was Mason Greenwood who clocked the top speed, of 37.60km/h against Everton during the 1-1 draw earlier this month…

Greenwood is an incredibly gifted athlete who is improving year-on-year. This term will always be remembered as his breakthrough campaign, but nobody knew he had pace like this.

In short-sharp bursts, Greenwood can go toe-to-toe with the best of them which only adds another tool to his incredible arsenal. Not only is this kid a lethal finisher, great with both feet and extremely calm, he’s also a huge threat on the counter-attack.

These are our five top speeds recorded this term:

Everton (a) = Greenwood (37.60)
Everton (h) = Fred (37.29)
Burnley (a) = James (36.90)
Liverpool (a) = James (36.50)
Crystal Palace (h) = Rashford (36.32)
