Mason Greenwood pulls out of international duty with back injury

Manchester United just cannot catch an injury break at the moment. Right now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see if there’s more players sidelined than actually available!

Well, that list has further grown today, with United being hit with another injury. Teenager Mason Greenwood has pulled out of England U21 international duty with a back issue, according to the official club website.

The 18-year-old came on as a second-half substitute for United against Newcastle on Sunday, but seemingly, the problem was enough to warrant Greenwood pulling out of Aidy Boothroyd’s latest squad…

It certainly seems sensible from United to not risk Greenwood here. Back problems can potentially be serious, long-term issues that become tough to treat. It’s good that the Reds are looking to tackle it at the source and allowing the young man to fully heal over the next fortnight.

Although United don’t put a time-frame on it, you’d hope that Greenwood is available to at least feature in the squad to take on the old enemy Liverpool next time out…

Unfortunately for Greenwood, he’s yet to have the desired impact in the bread and butter that is Premier League football. What better way to announce yourself than bagging against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool?
