Man United midfielder Mason Mount is out for up to five weeks with a fresh hamstring injury.
Manchester United’s 2023/24 was severely disrupted by injuries under Erik ten Hag, though somehow, the Red Devils managed to lift an FA Cup trophy in the midst of it all.
Sadly, the new campaign has started off in similar manner. Leny Yoro, Rasmus Hojlund and Luke Shaw all missed the start of the term. Now, another casualty has been added to the list.
Mason Mount came off at half-time against Brighton, after looking lively in that match. The boss confirmed it was injury related at the time, though the severity wasn’t known.
Now, The Athletic have confirmed the fresh injury blow, with the 25-year-old ruled out for between four and five weeks with a new problem.
The Englishman will now miss all of September, meaning Mount will be unavailable for as many as six matches – including four Premier League games starting with Liverpool this Sunday.
Unfortunately, injuries have been Mount’s story at United so far. The ex-Chelsea man just hasn’t been able to stay fit and that has to be a genuine concern for Ten Hag and his coaching staff.
It’s a massive shame as he’s started this season well and no doubt he’s more frustrated than anybody as it may be hard to break back into the team upon his return from the treatment table…
For United, there now has to be real doubts setting in. Don’t forget Mount cost the club in excess of £50m and although these problems are no fault of his own, it’s a massive problem for the Red Devils if they continue.
Get well soon, Mason.
