Mason Mount has picked up yet another injury problem, with the midfielder now out of Sunday’s game against Arsenal.
It feels like Manchester United Football Club are losing two players through injury for every one that returns. It really has been a brutal campaign for Erik ten Hag and this playing squad.
Perhaps no player epitomises it more than Mason Mount. The England international was the big money signing of last summer, with great things expected from the ex-Chelsea man. Sadly, he just hasn’t been able to keep fit for a prolonged period of time.
When it looked like Mount was getting over his problems, another blow has been struck. Now, ahead of the Arsenal game, Ten Hag has confirmed that the star has picked up an injury and he will ‘not be available’ for Sunday’s game against Arsenal.
This is another example of Mount’s rotten luck this term. You do start to wonder whether there is more to it than that, particularly with so many players going down with fresh problems week after week.
Check out what the gaffer had to say on Mount here:
“I have to report that unfortunately, yesterday, Mason Mount fell out [of contention]. So he will not be available for Sunday.” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.
Fortunately, the injury isn’t thought to be serious and he should play again this season, but I’m starting to wonder whether it’s best to let him sit out the final few games and concentrate on being as close to 100% as possible for 2024/25.
The summer break will give him the chance to mentally reset and hopefully, come back stronger with a point to prove. He has the ideal character and mental toughness to hit the ground running from pre-season and start silencing his doubters.
