Mason Mount is still fetching interest from Man United, amid stalling contract talks with Chelsea.
Just last week, we covered a claim from The Sun, who stated that Manchester United were considering a ‘shock move’ for Chelsea and England midfielder Mason Mount.
The attacking midfielder has been an integral part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans, though with a takeover happening at Chelsea, talks over a new deal haven’t been possible.
Well this morning, The Sun have another update for us in that brewing saga. They claim that the 23-year-old Premier League star has been waiting on a new contract ‘for months’, amid interest from the Red Devils.
Understandably, Mount is attracting interest from ‘elsewhere’, with Erik ten Hag apparently ‘keen’ on signing the English midfielder.
As things stand, United’s interest has been ‘noted’ by Mount’s camp, though sealing fresh terms at Stamford Bridge remains to be the priority for the player.
Making just £80,000-a-week, Mount is obviously looking to improve his weekly wage at the club he loves. No doubt he and his agent and looking to use Red Devils interest as leverage when discussions with Chelsea’s new owners actually begin.
As things stand, I’d be incredibly surprised if United could somehow pull this move off. Mount loves Chelsea. I’d be shocked if the Englishman is willing to leave the London club for a Manchester United side without Champions League football on the table.
Although Ten Hag has been watching Mount since a loan spell at Vitesse back in 2017, I just find it tough to imagine any scenario during which the Englishman ends up at Old Trafford this summer. The situation gets even tougher when both Manchester City and Liverpool are credited with interest.
I’d love to see Mount come to United. He’d be a game-changing signing due to his work ethic, impeccable attitude and skill. It just doesn’t look very likely as things stand.
