Match Preview: Arsenal vs United

Manchester United head to the Emirates hoping to turn their fortunes around against probably the most consistent side in the league so far. Arsene Wenger’s men suffered a heavy 5-1 defat at home last time out, and their defence has looked as susceptible as United’s in recent weeks. This could be a high scoring affair.

Realistically Champions League football is now out of our reach. We sit nine points off Liverpool, with Tottenham and Everton sandwiched in the middle of us and our bitter rivals. The chances are that even if Liverpool were to monumentally mess things up, Everton or Spurs aren’t both likely to do the same.

David Moyes has kept his cards very close to his chest regarding Manchester United’s injury news ahead of the game. However if you believe reports then Phil Jones and Marouane Fellaini will miss out as they are still suffering from injury. On the other hand, Jonny Evans could return after a calf problem. Tom Cleverley also looks set for a comeback to first-team action after a knock ruled him out of the Fulham game.

Arsenal have a few injury problems of their own. Aaron Ramsey misses out with a long-term hip problem, Theo Walcott has an ACL knee injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season, and new singing Kim Kallstrom has concerns over his back. The game will come too soon for Thomas Vermaelen, and Mathieu Flaimini is suspended.

This is a game where a season could be kickstarted. United simply have to put in a good performance to give the fans something to cheer at least. Hopefully Juan Mata can get his first goal as he has a very good record against Arsenal, as does Robin van Persie.

Score prediction: Arsenal 2-2 United.
