Match Preview: Cambridge United vs Manchester United

Hereford, Wrexham and Stevenage are some of the teams that have caused the biggest upsets in the history of the FA Cup, could Cambridge United make history and prove that there is still magic left in today’s game? Louis van Gaal will certainly be hoping Manchester United can prove otherwise.

Whatever the result, this is going to be the biggest game of Cambridge’s season. Lavishing in League Two mid-table, a good performance this Friday could spearhead a playoff push for the U’s. Having beaten Fleetwood, Mansfield and Luton so far in the cup, they have certainly earned a meeting with one of the biggest teams in World. Nothing more left than just enjoy it.

For Manchester United it will be another step towards the only real possibility of silverware this season. Van Gaal has stated that he wants a good cup run and a win at the Abbey Stadium is absolutely essential for his ambitions. However after the tough game against Yeovil and the humiliating defeat by MK Dons, no win is guaranteed.

Injury News

U’s captain – midfielder Tom Champions is doubtful, but expected to feature in the game. Former Devil Luke Chadwick has sustained a knee injury a couple weeks ago and his game time needs to be managed. Other than that no serious problems for Manager Richard Money.

Ashley Young remains a long-term casualty, but both Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are now unavailable due to injury problems. Luke Shaw and Robin van Persie could both return.

Hopefully LVG starts with 4-4-2, allowing more creativity in the middle of the pitch. A goal during the first half should settle the affair.
