Match Preview: Man United vs Perth Glory (2019 tour)

Manchester United’s 2019/20 campaign finally gets underway. In around 24 hours, the Red Devils take on A-League side Perth Glory, who finished as runners-up in their domestic campaign last season.

Kick-off time: 12:30pm (UK)
Stadium: Optus Stadium.
TV channel: MUTV.

There’s always a real sense of intrigue at the season’s start. Everyone is on a level playing field, who knows just how far United can go? At the end of the day, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does have a talented squad at his disposal.

With new signings made, while some key players have agreed to new long-term contracts, there’s a real opportunity for this club to start from scratch and build upon a solid foundation. It all starts with getting up to speed and maintaining those all-important fitness levels.

This game against Perth is probably the easiest on paper, but it does feel like the perfect way to kick things off – while giving several youngsters a chance.

Team News

Fred, Matteo Darmian and Dean Henderson haven’t travelled, while Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku didn’t feature in the open training session yesterday. Aside from that, United have pretty much a full squad to choose from.

Expect to see the likes of Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes and James Garner get their chance, while who knows, perhaps we could see new signings Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka…

Match Betting

The markets are usually pretty tough in these friendly matches as it’s hard to work out who exactly will play, while gauging what sort of effort will be put in. As you’d imagine, the Red Devils are the overwhelming favourites for this one…

Match Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Perth Glory.

Even if Solskjaer does start with eleven youngsters, United should have more than enough to come out on top and kick off the tour with a win. Hopefully, we see a few good goals, while getting a first look at James and Wan-Bissaka.
