Match Preview: Manchester United – Aston Villa

After the disappointing cup exit to Arsenal, Manchester United have picked up and produced two of the best performances in their season. Wins against Tottenham and a derby win at Anfield, mean that things are again rosy for Van Gaal and his side.

Perhaps a slight glimpse of chance for the title? With Liverpool being five points away at the Fifth Place and City at second only at two away, the top places of the table could be looked at with some optimism. The Iron Tulip, however does not want to get carried away and wants to seal a Champions League spot. The home encounter against Aston Villa is a must win in his calendar, with games against City, Chelsea and Arsenal still to come.

The Villains have been struggling all season long, which prompted a manager change with Tim Sherwood coming in. Two derby wins against West Brom with one being in a FA Cup quarter-final have certainly lifted the mood at Villa Park. Before the international break, they lost at home to Swansea, but before that thrashed Sunderland in a relegation six pointer. Sherwood has changed the team for the better, emphasising on an adventurous style of play and more flair going forward. However despite the uplift, Villa are still only three points away from the relegation places.

Injury News

Luckily no one got injured during the International break, with some fine form from Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney. Robin Van Persie was expected to return, but will miss the game through an ankle problem. Jonny Evans has four more games of his ban, and Chris Smalling is doubtful through illness.

Tom Cleverly is unavailable due to terms of loan, while Kozak, Richardson, Cissokho and Baker will miss through injuries with all expected to be back in the coming weeks. Captain Ron Vlaar and Senderos are subject to late fitness test due to calf problems.

Predicted Line-ups:

Manchester United (4-5-1): DDG; Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Blind; Carrick, Feillani, Herrera, Mata, Young; Rooney

Aston Villa (4-4-2): Guzan; Bacuna, Clark,Jokore,Lowton;N’Zogbia,Gil,Delph,Sinlcair; Agbolanhor,Benteke

Last Meeting: Aston Villa: Manchester United 1:1

An early goal by Christian Benteke was cancelled when Falcao equalised with a headed finish. It was a disappointing result that stopped the run of six straight league wins. United are in similar form this time around with four straight wins and revenge should be on the cards.
