Match Preview: Manchester United v Liverpool

This magnificent pre-season tour for Manchester United ends in style in the final of the Champions Cup against non other than our Scouse counterparts Liverpool. This may be a friendly game on paper but on the pitch, the stands and even Twitter, this game will be anything but friendly.

Liverpool have had a decent Champions Cup run beating Olympiakos and Milan. Also beating Man City on penalties after City’s horrendous penalty kicks seen Liverpool win the shootout 3-1.  will be without Daniel Sturridge who flew home with a hamstring injury. However Liverpool still have the new Ronaldo according to himself; Raheem Sterling – after reports this week quoting that he gets treated like Ronaldo and Messi on the pitch.

Man United. Well what can I say? They have been absolutely fantastic this whole pre-season tour. At the minute United look more confident, fitter and hungrier  than they ever did last season. Against Real Madrid, United outplayed them all across the pitch. Their passing was exceptional and got stuck into tackles which was something that was missing last season. Even Ashley Young is performing, not meaning to be harsh but he was absolutely useless last season but he seems to be fitting in well in the Left Wing-Back role which must be worrying for Luke Shaw.

Injury News

Robin Van Persie is still on break, and looking likely to miss the start of the season. Rafael was sent home after picking up a groin injury and Michael Carrick is still out for around 10 weeks after surgery on his foot. It looks as though Adnan Januzaj and Marouane Fellaini still haven’t met up with the tour either, but they could be fit for the league opener. Chris Smalling will also miss out after picking up a slight knock, and Danny Welbeck will also miss out after picking up a knee injury.

Score Prediction

Manchester United 3-0 Liverpool

I think Liverpool have been really ordinary in this competition and United seem to be in free scoring form. Although the prediction might seem optimistic going by the two teams performances it’s a possibility.
