Match Preview: Manchester United vs Arsenal (Premier League, 2019)

Manchester United have struggled over the last few weeks. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have been putting in some disappointing performances, to say the least.

Next up, a tough test against Arsenal. The game is at home, though, and this does present United with a real opportunity to drag themselves back in amongst it – while sending out a message in the process.

Stadium: Old Trafford.
Kick-off time: 20:00 BST.
Referee: Kevin Friend.
TV Channel: Sky Sports.

With a victory this evening, United could push themselves as high as fifth in the table, overlapping Arsenal on goal difference and moving to eleven points. Lose and the alarm bells will continue to ring, perhaps even more loudly.

Team News

United’s situation hasn’t been helped by an injury crisis. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford will be missing, while Solskjaer is sweating on the fitness of both Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw. Eric Bailly remains a long-term casualty.

Do United trust in youth? Well, in some aspects they haven’t got a point as Mason Greenwood looks a shoe-in to start this evening. Axel Tuanzebe is pushing hard for a start, as is Angel Gomes.

Last Meeting: Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United.

The Reds will have revenge on the mind. Solskjaer’s team were beaten, and beaten well away at The Emirates back in March. Though with the Old Trafford crowd behind them, United will be looking for a positive outcome here.

Match Odds

United are home favourites at odds of 7/5, though the bookies aren’t writing off Arsenal, with The Gunners fetching in odds of around 9/5.

We like the Both Teams to Score market here, while you have to be looking at Daniel James and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to both get on the score-sheet.

Match Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal.

I’m going with my heart here and predicting a home win. We turned up for the big game against Chelsea on the opening day and I’m hoping something similar unfolds here.

James and Greenwood to score for United, with Arsenal snatching a late consolation…
