Match Preview: Manchester United vs Inter Milan (2019 tour)

Manchester United made it two wins from two during their Australia leg of pre-season tour. Now, the Red Devils head to Singapore to start their International Champions Cup campaign…

It’s at this point the quality of opposition really starts to ramp up. In less than 24 hours, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be pitting his wits against Antonio Conte as the 20-time Premier League winners take on Inter Milan.

Kick-off time: 12:30pm (UK), Wednesday 17th July.
Stadium: Singapore National Stadium.
TV channel: MUTV.

This game is made more intriguing by the ongoing rumours linking Lukaku with a potential move to Inter Milan. As of yet, we’re still to see the Belgium international take to the field this summer as he’s apparently been nursing injuries. Personally, I feel Solskjaer is just protecting the striker, whose head isn’t understandably fully in it at this point.

That’s the perfect segway into United’s team news…

Team News

Luke Shaw missed out last time with a hamstring problem but the 24-year-old is now back in training so he should be ready to go. Eric Bailly also picked up a knock against Leeds United, it’s unclear as to whether he’s fit.

I personally don’t think the aforementioned Lukaku will be involved, while goalkeeper Lee Grant is struggling with a minor problem.

Again, I think we’ll see a youthful line-up named, with changes aplenty being made at half-time as Solskjaer looks to get a good look at everyone before the game against Chelsea next month.

Match Betting

Manchester United are 21/20 favourites for this one, with Inter coming in at odds of around 3/1. Understandably, that’s likely due to the fact that we’re further along in terms of our pre-season as the Serie A doesn’t start for another month yet.

Match Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Inter Milan.

This will be a closer affair but fitness could prove important, and with the electric pace United possess, particularly on the counter, the Red Devils should come out on top in this one.
