Match Preview: Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Manchester United will be looking to start the festive period with a crucial home victory against Newcastle United this afternoon – especially with two tricky away fixtures against Tottenham and Stoke coming up next.

Louis van Gaal still has an injury problem on his hands, particularly in the midfield area. Hopefully the manager can find space in the middle of the park for Angel di Maria, who has tended to play his best games when playing in the centre.

Injury News

Chris Smalling could return after a groin problem, but United will still be without a whole host of first-team regulars. Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini will just miss out, as will Marcos Rojo as he continues to recover from a thigh strain. Daley Blind is still a long-term casualty despite returning to training, and I don’t expect to see him play again until mid-January.

Last Meeting: Newcastle United 0-4 Manchester United

The last time these two sides met United ran out comfortable winners at St. James’ Park. This was one of David Moyes’ few highlights as boss, where Juan Mata scored two cracking goals which guided United to all three points.

Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Newcastle United

The Reds should have enough to take all three points at home today. Old Trafford is becoming somewhat of a fortress again and I fancy us to grab a comfortable win here.
