Match Preview: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur (tour 2019)

Manchester United have won three from three on their pre-season tour. All three victories were earned in pretty convincing fashion, too. For that, credit has to go to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has implemented a high pressing game-plan that’s working wonderfully.

Again, the quality of opposition for this one is significantly ramped up. Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur came ever so close to Champions League glory just a couple of months ago, which only highlights their immense quality.

Kick-off time: 12:30pm (UK), Thursday 25th July.
Stadium: Hongkou Football Stadium.
TV channel: MUTV.

This is the true test for Solskjaer. I’d expect the Baby Faced Assassin to play as strong a team as physically possible as he looks to gauge just how far the squad has come over the last few weeks.

Team News

Romelu Lukaku has been ruled out once again. Apparently, he picked up a little injury in training which is keeping him sidelined. However, Victor Lindelof is ready to go which is a huge boost.

I think we’ll see a heavy dose of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in this one, Daniel James, too, while Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford will have big roles to play. I’d love to see some more Axel Tuanzebe and Mason Greenwood as they’d go up against some top-class players – which will only further their development.

Match Betting

This is the first time during the tour where United will be slight underdogs (13/8) while Spurs go into the match as the small favourites (7/5). Predicting pre-season friendlies is always hard work, but I do like the BTTS market in this one.

Match Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.

It’ll be close. Stopping Harry Kane from scoring will be a big ask, but we’ve more than enough firepower to hurt a stern Spurs defence. Hopefully, Rashford will bag again and we’ll see a first goal for James.
