In what is being billed as the ‘perfect match’, United go toe to toe with Spanish giants Real Madrid, a side who have won the European Cup an incredible nine times over the years. This feels like the biggest Champions League tie we’ve had in a long time, and its one that we’re all looking forward to.
Kickoff: 19:45
Venue: Santiago Bernabéu
Capacity: 85,454
Referee: Felix Brych
Where do you start with this game? There are massive battles throughout on and off the field. Fergie will be facing up against his old foe and possible successor Jose Mourinho, the self proclaimed “special one” is arguably the best manager in the world alongside Sir Alex, so it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top in the tactical battle.
Ronaldo against his old United teammates is another intriguing thought, the winger will get a great reception before and after the game whatever the result. For those 90 minutes on the field, our players will have to put sentiment to one side and treat Cristiano as they would any other opponent.
Probable starting XIs
Real Madrid: Lopez; Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao; Khedira, Alonso; Ozil, Di Maria, Ronaldo; Benzema
Manchester United: De Gea; Rafael, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Carrick, Cleverley, Jones; Kagawa, Rooney, Van Persie
Key Players
Cristiano Ronaldo: The ex-United superstar will always be a threat, playing against United won’t phase him at all, so our defenders will have to be at their absolute best to stop him.
Robin van Persie: He may not get an awful lot of chances tonight, so if one comes his way he simply has to score. Robin generally turns up in the big matches, having already scored against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, City and Tottenham this season.
My prediction: Real Madrid 2-2 Manchester United
I fancy both teams to score in this one, Ronaldo won’t be kept quiet for 90 minutes however hard we try. On the other hand Rooney and Van Persie will cause the Real defence havoc, so i’ve gone for a high scoring draw.
