Match Report: Manchester United 4-0 QPR

It was United’s first game after the international break and it was hugely anticipated by all the fans, as everyone hoped to see the new man Radamel Falcao. Finally United produced a fantastic performance, and came out comfortable winners, winning 4-0 with Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata scoring the goals.

Angel Di Maria had a superb match, and was rightly voted man of the match, but the unsung hero of the game was the magnificent Daley Blind, who covered every blade of grass for 90 minutes.

It was a long overdue change of system for United, switching back to the more traditional 4-4-2. There were debuts for Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo, plus an Old Trafford debut for Angel Di Maria, with the two other new signings – Falcao and Luke Shaw, only fit enough to make the bench.

United set the tone for the whole game within the first 10 minutes, the reds were dominant all over the pitch, and the only real thing lacking was that vital first goal. The best chance of the opening 20 minutes fell to Juan Mata but the Spaniard fired over. Finally on 24 minutes, United grabbed a deserved lead with record signing Angel Di Maria scoring his first goal for the club, curling in a free kick which missed everyone and nestled in the corner of the net.

On 36 minutes, the Red Devils made it 2-0 when Ander Herrera also scored his first goal for the Red Devils after he smartly slotted home from the edge of the box after some wonderful play by Di Maria and Rooney. It was total domination from United in the first half, and made it 3-0 just minutes before the break when Rooney lashed one in from just inside the box. This was more like the United we know and love!

United began the second half a bit sluggish, and nearly paid for it only for QPR to be denied by a smart stop from De Gea. After this chance, QPR never threatened and United took control once again. On 58 minutes we grabbed a deserved 4th goal when Angel Di Maria’s shot come pass found Mata in acres of space, and he cooly finished it off.

United were looking capable of scoring from every attack, and it was a joy to watch! The man everyone wanted to see finally came on when Radamel Falcao replaced Juan Mata. It was all United in the second half, but never really went looking for more goals.

Angel Di Maria’s sublime Old Trafford debut came to an end on 83 minutes, and he was greeted by a deserved standing ovation. Falcao almost got the goal every United fan craved, when he saw his shot saved by Robert Green after he parried Daley Blind’s fierce drive, but it wasn’t to be.

United finally gave everyone the performance we were waiting for, and turned on the style at Old Trafford. It gave United their first win of the season, and hopefully gave the whole squad some confidence. It was an impressive debut from new signings Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo, who settled in very nicely. Now let’s hope we can build on this!
